This is the 1st frame I built right from scratch...
a bunch of steel tubes in a box that were to become a bike some day; and it took a while...
Many lessons learn along the way, many, many mistakes and a very long time invested in the making (not always proactively) but overall it has been an absolute joy to see the bike come together and to shape it (literally) to what I wanted it to be.
The basic rig is a Columbus Zona tubing which angles are based on the famous Niner S.I.R. 9 29er frame, who better to reference from than a truly committed 29er company.
As you can see in my previous frame building posts all the work is 100% handmade by we Beneyto bros. Seriously, building a frame from scratch is A LOT of work. I would never have thought so...
After several atempts to paint the bike myself using car paint, I was never satisfied with the final look, since it produced a lot of imperfections and not enough protection. Finally I got the frame professionally powdercoated which trully gives the frame an impressive final look.
Going to the point of the finished bike now:
The wheels where stolen from my RM Altitude and fitted with Schwalbe Big Apple 28x2.0 tires (yes 28" tires fit perfectly on 29ers, insane how much confusion all this marketing name changing causes...).
I had to go for slick tires since (mistake number 4) I did not account for enough clearing on the top chain stays... damn... anyway I'm really not unhappy about the final result with thinner than wished tires...
This bike was build to be single speed and so have I kept it. It's easy enough to transform any wheel to single cog and any cranks to single chainring. It's a bit tricky to tension the chain, but the Surly Tuggnut takes care of it.
The Jetblack grips have a story behind them since they were a gift I got at the Scott 24h Mtb at Camberra, which was actually the day I decided I needed a steel 29er! they also work a treat!
I owe the Hope Mono disc brakes to Jaume who generously donated them to the cause. After a good bleed they do a great job.
We are particularly proud of the CNC cut Ferroupur logos, quite a work of art that give the bike a super exclusive look.
